After a winter workweek where I mostly see daylight on my way to work, I got a chance to hike up Diamond Hill and take some pictures from the hilltop on a clear sunny day. As a result of tinkering with the Canon 90D camera, I recently figured out how to take panorama pictures, and wanted to test it on some local snowy trails. Having grown up in Cumberland, Rhode Island, I want to document my local parks and trails as a means to get some exercise, and hike more often.

Diamond Hill State Park is one of my first places to test out some handheld HDR panorama pictures, and maybe have a chance to capture some wildlife/birds. Google results mention that the Boston Skyline and Mount Wachusett are visible on a clear day. My ultimate goal was to take a HDR panorama picture from the top of Diamond Hill, and share it here, which you will find in the gallery above, however the picture quality needs work. I don’t know if using a wide open aperture to take the panorama over Cumberland was a good idea, because it heavily blurred the image.

Lucky I also captured 4 HDR pictures/frames over a pond at the base of Diamond Hill, which easily stitched together into a combined 14,393px wide panorama, my first single image with over 50 megapixels of resolution. The image breaks WordPress, and will not fit in the gallery, so here is the full resolution panorama image link. This 14K monstrosity is a clear illustration why a 5 exposure handheld shot of tiny branches moving in the wind is a mediocre idea at best, and I will stick to single exposures in my next nature hike to enjoy a beautiful day.
